Highs and Lows
With Gratitude April 30
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who trust in him.”
-Nahum 1:7
It is true what they say in meetings: this too shall pass. The bad times pass and the good times pass. Life is full of ups and downs, highs and lows. It is my current spiritual condition, my current conscious contact with my Higher Power, that will determine how I respond to changes in circumstances.
If I am working daily to maintain my spiritual condition, the chances are good that I will be able to ride with the wave, with the ebb and flow of the tide as it comes. And it is coming, no doubt. The only sure thing about this life is that it will change.
So the practices I do on a daily basis can help me stay in balance when the changes come. If I am diligent about daily prayer and meditation, these changes can come with a minimum of disruption to my serenity. God’s promise of sustaining peace will surely be my stronghold.
Yes, life is truly in session. But so is our Higher Power. He never changes, even though we do have highs and lows in our own lives. His presence gives us hope in our lives as we continue to trust in him and in his power.
Today’s Prayer
God, I am afraid of the highs and lows of life. Help me develop a daily practice of prayer and meditation so that my conscious contact with you is strong when trouble comes my way. Let me be willing to try this.
